This week, Storvik welcomed a group of girls from Tingvoll Lower Secondary School to our Project & Engineering department in Sunndalsøra. The visit was part of the national Girls and Technology initiative, where 46 companies across Norway open their doors to showcase career opportunities within technology and engineering.
The initiative is organized by the Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise (NHO) in collaboration with the nationwide Girls and Technology project. Its goal is to inspire more girls to pursue education and careers in technology, engineering, and other STEM fields. Each year, the project runs a national tour followed by company visits that give students a close and authentic introduction to working life.
Hands-on activities and insight into engineering work
During their visit to Storvik, the students participated in several hands-on stations, solved technical challenges, and learned more about the everyday tasks within our engineering environment. The visit also included an informal quiz and lunch together with the team.
– It was a fantastic day. The girls were curious, engaged, and approached the tasks with great enthusiasm. The atmosphere was excellent throughout, says Vidar Ulvestad, Head of Project & Engineering.
– We appreciate the opportunity to show what technology and engineering look like in practice at Storvik.
Supporting future recruitment in the industry
Storvik has long worked to highlight the diverse career paths available in the industry. Participating in Girls and Technology is an important part of this effort.
– The industry relies on strong technical competence, and it is important that young people see how many exciting opportunities exist within engineering and technology – also here in our region, says Siri Sande, Chief Marketing & Sustainability Officer at Storvik.
– Visits like this give young people real insight into working life, which can help guide their future educational choices.
Storvik would like to thank Tingvoll Lower Secondary School for the visit, and acknowledges NHO and the Girls and Technology project for an important national initiative that promotes recruitment, diversity, and interest in STEM subjects.
