Advancing Aluminium Production Efficiency and Sustainability
The EX technology is designed to produce more aluminium with less energy and lower emissions, targeting energy consumption as low as 12 kW/kg. With the integration of advanced Internet of Things (IoT) sensors, real-time data collection, and artificial intelligence, EX technology will enable autonomous control of potline processes, cranes, and vehicles. These innovations aim to optimise efficiency, reduce disruptions, and achieve continuous process improvement.
EGA plans to utilise and expand on its existing Industry 4.0 use cases, which include dynamic shift life prediction, smart cranes with AI-enabled vision, and predictive maintenance. The first hot metal from the pilot cells is expected in the first half of 2025, with the technology targeted for large-scale industrialisation by 2028.
Storvik’s Role in Supporting Innovation
Storvik has been entrusted with developing a tapping and discharge system for the EX project, optimized for the limited space available in the testing area. The Storvik delivery was completed within a tight timeframe, ensuring the project stayed on schedule.
EGA’s commitment to sustainability and technological advancement aligns seamlessly with Storvik’s vision of driving innovation in the aluminium industry. The positive feedback and strong support we’ve received from EGA underscore the importance of our partnership and our shared dedication to fostering growth in the region.
This groundbreaking ceremony represents not only a step forward for aluminium production but also a proud moment for Storvik as we contribute to shaping the industry’s future.
