Hydro has awarded Storvik a contract to modernize the anode paste plant at Hydro Sunndal.
Hydro Sunndal is modernizing the anode paste plant at the aluminium plant at Sunndalsøra. Storvik has been awarded a contract for the demolition and installation work and includes the installation of a new mixing line for carbon mass, a new ball mill, as well as the dismantling of the existing production line in the anode paste plant. The work will start in the summer of 2018 with the goal of starting a complete plant in the fall of 2019. The contract includes activities and the supply of necessary resources for design, procurement, fabrication, dismantling and installation, as well as assistance with testing and commissioning.
This is a project that requires careful planning as existing plants will be in full operation, in parallel with the installation of a new production line. The project group is already well underway with a preliminary study to ensure that the project is carried out with a high focus on HSE and within given time frames. At the same time, we will make use of the valuable expertise that our operators have accumulated through many years of maintenance and modifications at the plant, when the process line will now be upgraded, says CEO of Storvik AS Dag Sverre Sæsbøe.
Modernization of the anode paste plant has been prepared for a long time. The fact that Storvik has been awarded this contract is a declaration of trust and confirmation that Storvik has the right expertise and the necessary resources to carry out this type of project. The Storvik Group today has more than 30 engineers and 70 operators, Storvik is positioning itself with this project, in order to be able to undertake larger and more comprehensive projects in the process industry nationally and internationally in the future. Over the past 2 years, Storvik has carried out a significant project at a carbon plant in Volgograd, Russia, to create similar anodes for aluminum production, this project is now in its final phase.
After we got Heggset Engineering on the team, we are able to take on larger projects from planning and engineering to production, execution and handover. The contract at the anode paste plant confirms that the strategy laid down is correct, CEO Stein Kjartan Vik adds.
The contract value is several tens of millions and will be of great importance to both Storvik and other players locally. At the same time, Storvik sees increasing demand for all business areas both nationally and internationally. The Storvik group had sales of MNOK 260 last year, with 77% coming from operations outside Sunndalsøra. With expertise and experience built up over decades, the company has a clear strategy and growth in Norway and abroad. Investments are being made in new products and concepts and Storvik is investing considerable resources in R&D work, which in turn will strengthen our competitiveness in the future. Over the next few months, Storvik is completing a projects in Karmøy, Mosjøen, Årdal, Narvik and Volgograd Russia.
We now expect a period of high activity and many exciting projects over the next few years. This provides a solid platform for further growth and we prepare job vacancies to strengthen the team in several places in the organization. The project is extensive and will require many resources and we will therefore rely on close cooperation with local suppliers who has knowledge about the anode paste plant, says Amund Bjerkholt, Head of Project & Engineering.
Local suppliers at Sunndalsøra are well known inside the Hydro plant and this facilitates a safe and efficient project execution.
